Chapter 10

Chloe glanced briefly at the coffeemaker as she used the spatula in her hand and flipped the omelet in the pan. It was just after seven in the morning and she was in the process of making breakfast while Oliver showered. Tess had called her last night and left a message letting her know she had a new mission for them so while Oliver went into work, she was going to head over to the Agency and get their assignment.

She smiled as she thought about Oliver. The last few days had been more than a little amazing and it wasn’t just the sex, though, that was phenomenal. They had spent a lot of time lately getting to know each other. The other night they’d spent hours naked and wrapped in blankets on the balcony in their bedroom, watching the stars and talking about what their lives were like before the Agency.

Chloe told Oliver about her mother, about her issues with the Luthors, her father and how close she’d been with her cousin since they were kids. He told her what it was like growing up without his parents, his issues with the Luthors and when he decided to do more. It had been an amazing night.

She never thought she’d be having this much fun with Oliver, she never thought she’d care about him as much as she did. Chloe sighed and shut off the stove. She cut the omelet in half and put a piece on each plate before bringing them to the island. She grabbed forks and juice for Oliver and put them next to the plates before moving toward the coffeemaker to make herself a cup of coffee. She was so lost in thought that she didn’t hear the sound of Oliver making his way into the kitchen.

Despite the fact that he had an entire day of meetings ahead of him, Oliver was in a good mood as he made his way down the stairs and through the apartment toward the kitchen. It was hard not to smile when things had been going so well between him and Chloe lately. He'd never had anyone in his life that he felt so comfortable with; someone who understood him and where he was coming from. He'd shared things with Chloe that he'd never told anyone and it was pretty incredible to be able to trust someone so much.

Oliver moved into the kitchen and noticed that Chloe hadn't heard him coming as she stood near the counter, waiting for her coffee to finish brewing. He moved in behind her, wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her body back against his chest. "Hey there, favorite wife," he said as he lowered his head and kissed the sensitive spot behind her ear.

A grin slid across Chloe’s face when she felt Oliver’s arms around her. Her eyes fluttered shut briefly as she leaned into him. “Mm, morning husband,” she said softly as she placed a hand over is around her waist. “It felt like you were in there for a long time,” she commented, “I might have missed you…Maybe,” she teased as she brushed her thumb across his hand while tilting her head to the side so she could see him. “Kiss?”

"Since you asked so nicely..." Oliver smiled at her and then leaned down, brushing his lips against hers. He meant for the kiss to be quick, but his mouth seemed to have a mind of its own. His lips moved over hers, his tongue teasing the seam of her lips until she opened her mouth and let him deepen the kiss. Oliver spun her around so she was facing him as he explored her mouth, his hands falling to her hips and tugging her closer.

Chloe moaned into his mouth as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She let him deepen the kiss as she pressed herself against him as that familiar spark of arousal ignited inside of her. She broke the kiss a minute later when air became an issue, trying to figure out how in the world he could make her want him so bad with only one kiss.

She ran her tongue over her bottom lip as she held his gaze. “Is that all I have to do?” Chloe asked, her voice a soft whisper, “Ask nicely?” She pressed herself closer to him and ran a hand down his shirt as she leaned forward and pressed a kiss to his jaw.

"Or you know, be in the same room as me," Oliver teased. He slid his fingers into her hair and tilted her head back so she was meeting his gaze. "I missed you too, but not as much as I'm going to miss you when I'm suffering through these meetings all day." He made a face. "But once they're over, I'm all yours."

Chloe scrunched her nose, “I’m not sure how late I’ll be tonight,” she said with a sigh as she tugged him closer. “You know…we’re running a little early,” she said, letting her voice trail off as she grinned at him, a hint if mischief in her gaze.

"Is that all you ever think about?" Oliver shook his head, but he was smiling. "I like where this is going, Sidekick. Tell Mercy that we want to go somewhere quiet and not be bothered for an extended period of time." He lowered his head and trailed kisses along her neck.

Chloe pouted, “I feel like I should be offended by that comment,” she said as she tilted her head to the side, giving him better access to her neck as she threaded her fingers through his hair. Her eyes fluttered shut as she enjoyed the feel of his lips against her skin. A thought occurred to her and she tugged his head away from her neck so she could see him. “Maybe Lois is right,” she said softly, “Maybe we should take a real honeymoon.”

"Really?" Oliver was slightly taken aback by that because he knew how devoted Chloe was to the Agency and he didn't really see her being the type to request time off. But he could see that she was serious and the thought was more than appealing. Oliver smiled at her. "I think that sounds like a great idea. Obviously we can't skip this mission they have planned, but maybe afterward. We can go anywhere you want."

Chloe saw the surprise on his face and her face warmed as a hint of embarrassment filled her “Of course,” she said with a nod, “I can talk to Tess about it today, if you’re sure you don’t mind,” she said softly. “Three years working with the Agency and I’ve never taken off. I’m sure they can do without us for a week,” she told him as she met his gaze, “But only if you’re sure you want to because we don’t have to.”

"No, I want to," Oliver assured her as he tightened his grip around her, tugging her closer to him. "You might not have picked up on this, but spending time with you is my favorite thing." He dipped his head and rested his forehead against hers. "I think a honeymoon sounds like a great idea."

Chloe’s expression softened as she held him close. “That’s good to hear, Hero,” she reached up and cupped his cheek, “Because my favorite time of the day is the time I spend with you,” she admitted softly. Chloe reached up and pressed a light kiss to his lips. “I talked to Lois yesterday,” she said, “She thinks we should go out with her and Clark, get to know each other better,” she said with a smile, “Would that be okay with you? We should probably get to know Clark anyway; he seems pretty serious about my cousin,” she said while gripping the sides of his jacket lightly.

Familiar guilt tightened in Oliver's chest. As honest with Chloe as he'd been about everything in his life, he hadn't told her the truth about Clark. Oliver had thought about it, but it wasn't his secret to tell. He also wasn't sure how Chloe would feel if she knew he manipulated the situation to make sure they ended up married. He wanted to tell her everything, but if he was being honest, Oliver was afraid that she might react badly and things would fall apart between them. Maybe that made him a coward, but Oliver couldn't bring himself to admit that Clark was the Blur.

"That sounds great," he lied through his teeth, sending her a smile. Oliver knew the odds were against him and sooner or later, Chloe would find out that Clark was the Blur. But maybe she wouldn't realize that Oliver had known or that the two of them were friends. Fresh guilt hit him as he realized he was thinking about covering one lie with a bigger lie. He needed to tell her the truth before it was too late, "Chloe."

Chloe tilted her head to the side and studied Oliver’s expression. “Yeah?” she asked softly, but before he could answer, her phone went off. She rolled her eyes and smiled. “Hold that thought,” she said before squeezing his arm lightly and moving toward the table to grab her phone. She sighed when she saw the message from Tess. “I’ve got to get going, apparently Tess is more impatient than I thought,” she commented before tossing her phone into her purse and moving back over to Oliver.

“I guess you’re going to be eating breakfast without me,” she teased as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, drawing it out and only pulling back when air became an issue. Chloe shifted back and held his gaze, brushing her thumb against his bottom lip. “You make me happy,” she said suddenly, her expression warm. “I’ll see you later tonight?”

He knew he could tell her; it wasn't like keeping Tess waiting would be the end of the world. But Oliver couldn't help thinking this was some kind of sign from above to keep his mouth shut. "You make me really happy too." He kissed her softly. "I'll see you tonight." Oliver was already looking forward to it.

Tess was not in a good mood. It was barely nine o'clock in the morning and everything that could go wrong in the day already had and she was not amused. She fired off an email to one of her agents and then immediately opened another one and started a line of communication with Victor. She knew he was in the building and he was avoiding her, but she couldn't say that she blamed him.

He didn't respond immediately and her scowl deepened. She flipped back to her inbox and saw an email from Carter. Tess rolled her eyes when she saw how short it was. She was really tired of him coming up with excuses for not typing faster. He'd been alive forever. It wasn't that hard.

A knock on the door made her growl. "What?" she barked sharply, not taking her eyes off the computer.

Chloe paused before pushing the door open and making her way inside the office, “Sorry…am I interrupting something?” she asked as she saw the irritation on the other woman’s face. She shut the office door and walked forward, pausing behind the chair. “I can come back if you want,” she said, her tone light, though she’d rather get everything out of the way so she could surprise Oliver at work.

"No, I called you, remember?" Tess snapped before she let out another disgruntled noise. "I'm sorry. I'm not going to take my irritation out on one of the few people here who actually does what she's supposed to." She gestured to the chair across from her. "Please have a seat. I just need to take a deep breath or drink a bottle of scotch."

Chloe sat down, fixed her skirt, crossed her legs, and arched an eyebrow at Tess. She sent the other woman a sympathetic look. “Is everything okay? You seem slightly more stressed than usual,” she said, knowing the other woman was usually able to compartmentalize better.

Tess sighed. "I'm just irritated. People have been more uncooperative than usual lately. Some of these heroes are too stubborn for their own good. I don't know if people think I enjoy arguing over every single little detail, but I do not." She sighed, took a deep breath and forced herself to get in line. There was no reason she needed to drop all of this on Chloe. "How are things on your end?" she asked.

Chloe smiled, “Things are good,” she said, her tone light. “We’ve done great on the last few missions and we’re settling in nicely,” she commented. “Oh speaking of which, is there any chance Oliver and I can get a week off after this mission?” she asked, wanting to get it out of the way before Tess launched into the new mission.

Tess raised an eyebrow. "You want a week off together?" she asked, confused. Oliver took time off for business trips he couldn't get out of, but neither he nor Chloe had ever asked for personal time off. "What's going on?"

Chloe saw the confusion on Tess’s face and it suddenly dawned on her that telling the other woman what was going on with her and Oliver might not be the best idea. “Oliver needs to go to Star City or something for work and he thought it would look weird if he left town for an extended amount of time without me, since we’re married now,” she added, not that Tess didn’t already know that. She just hoped that Tess bought it.

"Oh, that's a good point," Tess agreed. She nodded as she turned back to the computer and checked the schedule. "That shouldn't be a problem." She added a quick note and turned back to Chloe. "This mission will keep you close to home, but it's a bit of an everyman on deck sort of thing." Tess told Chloe about a thief that had been prowling museums in the neighboring states and had recently turned up on the radar in Metropolis.

"We're not sure what he wants or which museum he's going to hit so we'll need your help with research and I want to have Oliver and Clark covering the various museums as part of their unauthorized evening patrols each night." She gave Chloe a pointed look, knowing the other woman had gotten involved in helping Oliver with that. "I can bring in Impulse if we need extra speed."

Chloe frowned; ignoring everything Tess said after Oliver and Clark. She sucked in a deep breath and it was like everything in her head clicked together in that moment. Oliver’s odd behavior, the fact that he and Clark had gotten along like they were old friends and the odd looks they’d sent to each other over the course of dinner. Chloe’s chest tightened, her heart clenching, as her face visibly paled.

He’d lied to her. She felt like there was an echoing in her ear and she spoke, cutting off Tess’s words, “Clark?” she asked inquisitively while holding her breath wanting – no – needing it to be some big coincidence.

"Sorry, The Blur," Tess corrected. "I forgot that you two still aren't on a first name basis, which seems a little odd, but I guess you haven't worked together much. He's one of the people on my list who have not returned my messages yet." A scowl formed on her lips once again. "I might have to ask your husband to get a hold of him. Of course it would help if he called me back once in a while too." She paused when she caught the look on Chloe's face. "Is something wrong?"

“Clark Kent is the Blur,” she said, her heart clenching, her hands tightened on the armrest of the chair. “Can you give me whatever paperwork you need to, please? I have to go,” she said quietly, doing her best to keep herself together in front of Tess. The last thing she needed to do was scream or break down crying in front of the other woman.

"Sure," Tess said. She could see something was wrong, but Chloe wasn't the type to share and Tess want the type to offer a shoulder. She gathered the file and handed it to the other woman. "If you have questions, let me know."

“I will,” she said as she took the files and stood and didn’t bother saying goodbye as she opened the door and slammed it shut. Chloe moved down the hallway, files in hand, but as she moved through the doors and security protocols, there was only one thing she could think about and that was Oliver. She got into the elevator and pushed the button for the underground parking garage. As soon as the doors slid shut, a tear slipped down her cheek. He’d lied to her, she’d trusted him, she’d thought there was something between, something real, but it was all just one big lie.

Wow, bummer that Tess beat Oliver to the punch. This should be an interesting last couple of chapters. :)

She most certainly did, but in her defense she didn't know it was an issue between them LoL. It definitely will be thanks for reading! :)

So, there it goes. Now the question is, what is Chloe going to do with the new information she's got? Maybe play a little tricky, or confront Ollie directly.... Looking forward to know what happens next.
Great update, by the way

I guess you'll have to read and find out haha. I don't think Chloe's up for playing games at the moment. Thanks for reading! :)

Well, that was bound to happen. Ollie was between a rock and a hard place not wanting to lie to Chloe, but not being able to out Clark. Maybe he could have told her a partial truth and asked her not to look into his identity? On second thought, he would have known she'd have it figured out in five seconds flat if he had given her even that much. Here's hoping she'll give him a chance to explain himself.

The beginning was adorable. :) This is still one of my favorites of yours - thanks for updating!!

S.O.B. Ollie should've just bit the bullet and told Chloe himself. Now they are back to square one.
Well I can't wait to read Ollie telling and showing Chloe that what they have isn't a lie. Time to really woo your wife Mr. Queen!!!
Chloe better be mad at Clark too. Oh and I hope she tells Lois or at least threatens Clark to do so!!!
Thanks for the update.
Happy writing.
Cori: Chloe_Oliver_Fortunesxymami0909 on September 10th, 2013 10:25 pm (UTC)
He should have, but at the same time it wasn't really his place to tell. Clark is his friend and he didn't want to betray him.

Haha there will be a conversation.

Chloe isn't friends with Clark in this story, so there isn't really a reason for her to be upset with him. Thanks for reading! :)

Argh. I knew Tess was going to screw the pooch somehow. And right before Ollie could come clean, too.

I actually love that Chloe is all shaken up and crying over the fact that Oliver lied to her, that shows she's fallen for him pretty hard already and that's very very good because it changes from the Chloe we met at the beginning of the fic trusting no one but herself and always wanting to be in control.
She'd trusted Oliver and he failed... but he had a good reason! And when you look on it from the outside the whole Clark's secret identity thing is ridiculous LOL!
Amazing chapter! Oliver's in trouble now but I'm sure he's going to manage to convince her it wasn't his secret to tell and that he felt bad about it.
Hope to read an update very soon. :)

Chloe is very invested in things with Oliver now and we thought it would be nice to show that with her reaction.

Yeah, she's definitely hurt and feeling kind of betrayed. Haha I think you'll be surprised with how things work out. We're glad you enjoyed the chapter, thanks for reading! :)

Oh, oh.... :(

The first part of this was really sweet :) Loved that Chloe admitted to him that he makes her happy and that she was the one who wanted to go to a real honeymoon (even lied to Tess to get them time off)... but after that...

Poor Chloe :( I knew she would find out eventually, and that it would most likely not be through Oliver... but still :(

Can't wait to see how Oliver reacts, what she's going to tell him and what Clark has to say about it... even Lois...

Great chapter!

Oliver should have figured out how much you love Chloe honesty especially now that he was born something intense between them.

Now I would not be in his shoes, Chloe is small .. but give battle.

Poor Ollie, but I'm sure that when Chloe calms down will appreciate the choice made in favor of his friend ... and also his cousin!

Aww,poor Chloe, she thinks everything between them is a lie.And Oliver is in big trouble beacuse of Clark. He prefer to hide and avoid his problems instead face them. And that has an effect on Chlollie happiness and now there won't be a honeymoon.Boo Clark. Now is a good time for him to repay for what Oliver had done for him.And he should get some kind of reprimand from Carter for his behavior.Well,I just want to see Carter one more time here.:)
Great chapter!Thank you and I can't wait to read what happens next.I wish it was aready the next monday or maybe you could post the next chapter sooner, pretty please?
